Updates on the DNR’s Sustainable Timber Harvest Analysis in 2018
As some of you likely are aware, the completion of the DNR’s Sustainable Timber Harvest Analysis in 2018 generated some confusion regarding our approach to forest habitat management on Wildlife Management Areas. We have attempted to address that confusion in a variety of ways since 2018, but it’s clear that some questions and concerns remain. Our agency leadership team places a high value on communication and transparency. Therefore, we are providing this message with the purpose of resolving any remaining confusion. Management Action Agreement Between The U.S. Department of Interior, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Midwest Region and Minnesota Department of Natural Resources
The purpose of this agreement is to address forest habitat management on lands acquired and managed by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) using U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (Service) Pittman-Robertson Wildlife Restoration Act (WR) and Dingell-Johnson Sport Fish Restoration (SFR) grants, from now on referred to collectively as Wildlife and Sport Fish Restoration (WSFR) grants. Ike's Concerns Re: Excessive Timber Harvest on Minnesota State Wildlife Management Areas
The Izaak Walton League is very concerned that the management of our Minnesota State Wildlife Management Areas (WMAs) is now driven more by financial considerations than sound biological/ecological science that protects the broad spectrum of wildlife distributed across Minnesota.
